 SIMULTANEOUS ATTACK AND DEFENSE...
The most efficient way to destroy the enemy and stay alive.

SOME systems would have you try and hit your attacker with NO regard for your OWN defense...

It defies reason but there are extremely expensive "realistic" self defense courses out there that would have you dive in on your attacker and completely ignore what he's throwing at you--kind of like the ancient Samurai who believed they were immune to bullets fired from European guns.  Here's the reality: Bad guys hit back...and defend themselves as well. To dive in with no understanding that your strikes will not only be blocked but that you will be pummeled as well (by someone bigger and stronger than you) and with no notion of defense or evasion defies the forensic reality of true violence. You can only pray that your attacker is as weak and uncommitted as these other "experts" suggest.
It doesn't matter HOW MANY lethal targets you know--NO ONE is going to just LET you hit them!

Bad guys get a vote in the fight--they attack and defend also. If they're bigger, stronger and quicker, they can hit your eyes and throat before you hit theirs--OR they can block your attack and then hit you somewhere else--and not like you planned. Then what do you do?

SOME systems would have you simply "defend" and try and "control"
the attacker without hurting him...

You see it on Youtube all the time: the "bad" guy "attacks" the instructor (who knows exactly what's coming, how and where), whereupon the instructor executes an amazingly fast and accurate defense response. Wow! If only reality was just like that! The delusion is: you think you can learn the "right" move for every attack. But here's the problem: REAL violence is a big, ugly mess that follows no script--just ask any cop or soldier. Competitive Sport fighting is no better: it has RULES to protect the competitors--life and death violence doesn't. TV and movies make it worse by contributing to cultural delusions about real violence and what fighting for your life really looks like. If you had to save the life of your wife or child you'd need to fight a lot differently than you would in the ring. Remember what Bruce Lee said: "The Way You Train Is the Way You Fight".

To attack and defend SIMULTANEOUSLY you have to learn how to ADAPT and IMPROVISE SPONTANEOUSLY with no pre-planned techniques.
